Strengthen the links in the chain of survival. Health care professionals have outlined four critical steps to save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim:

  • early contact with 911
  • administer CPR
  • defibrillation
  • advanced care
Of these four steps, knowledge of CPR and access to early defibrillation are the weak links. “Keep the Beat” works to strengthen these links by providing FREE CPR training and by donating automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to communities throughout south Louisiana.

”Keep the Beat” began in 2003 with a single-day CPR training event. Since then, through generous community support and dedicated volunteers, nearly 1,000 people have learned “bystander” CPR. While this is a powerful advancement, “Keep the Beat” is working to do more.

Communities throughout the United States have set programs like this in place with amazing results. These model communities have some of the lowest cardiac arrest fatality rates in the country.
