Keep the Beat, a not-for-profit event, began in February 2004 with the goal of teaching bystander CPR to the Acadiana Region and its neighboring areas.

Louisiana's heart disease rate is 10 percent higher than the national average, greatly increasing the incidence of sudden cardiac arrest. However, only one person in 20 knows CPR. Eighty percent of all sudden cardiac arrest happen at home; if you are called to perform CPR, it will most likely be for a family member or friend.
