Keep the Beat started in 2003 with a group
of community-minded businesses and organizations from Louisiana
seeking to make a difference in their hometown.
The first Keep the Beat program was held in the Bayou Region
parishes of Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. Mary and Assumption,
and it trained about 300 people in bystander CPR. Based on
the success of the program, St. Landry Parish soon adopted
the initiative, training more than 130 people in February,
2004.
The idea of a free CPR training day is not new.
Communities throughout the country are embracing CPR training
education programs to increase public safety - and with positive
results. Communities offering bystander CPR classes are experiencing
strong turnouts for the events. But more importantly, they are
also finding that the classes are yielding their intended goal:
Attendees have gone on to use the knowledge they've gained to
save lives. Please read on for course, sponsorship and
